Dr Jenifer Wakelyn

Dr Jenifer Wakelyn worked as an artist and in early years’ education before training in psychoanalytic child psychotherapy at the Tavistock Centre.

Dr Wakelyn is lead child and adolescent psychotherapist in a mental health service for children in care in London, and has a special interest in therapeutic support for babies and young children in care and those in transition.

The ‘Watch Me Play!‘ approach developed from her clinical research and has been disseminated across the UK and Europe, with funding from the Tavistock Clinic Foundation.

Her book Therapeutic Approaches with Babies and Young Children in Care: Observation and Attention was published by Routledge in 2020. Dr Wakelyn teaches and supervises in the Tavistock Centre and privately.

“These Masterclasses will introduce the Watch Me Play! approach and how it can be applied in many contexts, including remote working during the pandemic. I hope that participants will be enthused by the focus on child-led play and its potential for unlocking development, and the ideas that we’ll be exploring about the importance of attention for communication, concentration and self-regulation.”
